Social Media – Don’t Lean In, Just JUMP
One of the things that seems to hold insurance agents back from adding Social Media to their marketing toolbox is fear. I talk to a lot of agents from around the country who want to do more with Social Media but aren’t sure where to start.
You Can’t Just Lean In
Using Social Media as an effective marketing tool takes consistent, daily use. There are some areas of life where simply leaning into a new habit works well. This isn’t one of them. For instance, say you’re trying to eat healthier. A good way to start would be to declare Meatless Mondays or perhaps limit dessert to one day a week.
However, once you make a commitment to use Social Media to grow your agency you will need to use it every day for it to be effective. You’re starting a relationship with your online fans and followers. They have to be able to trust that you’re going to give them useful information daily, and also that when they leave a comment for you that you will answer.
How Much Time Does It Take Daily?
There is a perception that those who use Social Media to build and grow their business have to spend hours and hours each day on their Facebook page or reading pages and pages of Tweets. That’s just not true. You will need to set aside time to build your Social Media profiles, but once that is done it just takes a few minutes each morning and afternoon to make a new post and reply to any comments that you’ve received.
A good way to track the effectiveness of your time spent on Social Media is to set some basic Social Media goals thru the PODS software. Goals such as connecting with 2 centers of influence each day, interacting with 2 clients per day and posting fresh content each morning and afternoon are great places to start! Where To Start
It’s no secret that I love Social Media. I’ve connected with old friends and get to see pictures of family members who I wouldn’t see very often otherwise. It’s become as much a part of my personal life as it is my professional life. However, that doesn’t mean you have to do the same thing. What you will have to do though is make marketing through Social Media part of your lifestyle. I promise that’s really not as scary as it sounds.
My number one suggestion is to add Social Media apps to your smartphone. That way, when you’re on hold or waiting in line somewhere you can easily post something new or check your pages and reply to anyone who is “talking” to you.
